A suspect, Abdullahi Ibrahim (20), yesterday said he murdered a 12-year-old boy, Aliyu Suleiman, of Shagari Garage Wawa in Niger State for rituals.
Police arrested Ibrahim in Borgu Local Government Area.
Ibrahim was reportedly apprehended by police operatives attached to New Bussa Division, following a tip-off.
It was learnt that the suspect had lured Suleiman into his room with N100.
When asked why he committed the crime, the suspect said he slaughtered his victim with the intention of using him for ritual purposes.
He said: “But unfortunately he escaped and died on his way.”
It was learnt that Suleiman managed to escape with wounds but was found dead on Luma Road, Borgu.
The suspect was beaten to stupor by an angry mob but he was rescued by the police.
“I invited Suleiman to my rented room in Wawa town in Borgu where I killed him.
“It was my intention to behead my victim for ritual purposes but he managed to escape but died on his way. That was how I found myself in police net; it is unfortunate.
“Honestly, I got it wrong by trying to behead my victim for ritual. In fact, I cannot explain why and how I found myself in this hopeless situation,” Ibrahim said.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muhammad Abubakar, said the suspect confessed to the crime.
Abubakar added that the suspect had the intention of beheading his victim before he was apprehended by the police.
The PPRO said the suspect would be arraigned after investigation.
