POLICE ARRESTS LADY, 4 OTHER KIDNAPPERS IN ENUGU

Police at the weekend arrested members of a suspected kidnap syndicate in Enugu State. The police also freed the kidnappers’ victim. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement that the notorious kidnappers with their base in Aba, Abia State were apprehended by the police detectives attached to the Nkanu West Division.

The police, according to Amaraizu, acting on intelligence information, swooped on the abductors’ hideout located at Amakatanga axis of Agbani Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. The suspects are identified as Kingsley Nwafor (23) residing at Aba, Abia State; Chukwu Ebu-ka (28) residing in Aba, Abia State; Nelson Morris (24) from Owerri, Imo State; Ikechukwu Onwuabueke (26) residing in Onitsha, Anambra State and Miriam Oguejiofor (female) who also reside in Aba, Abia State.

They had allegedly abducted their victim, Anthony Okeke (46) from St. Michaels Road, Aba, Abia State. Miriam Oguejiofor, the female gang member, had reportedly contacted and lured their victim to Agbani in Enugu State with details of business venture to be executed by him. It was further learnt when the victim got to Agbani, the suspects surfaced and, pretending to be business associates working with Miriam, allegedly took him to their hideout located inside a lodge at Amakatanga axis of Ag-bani, where they kept him naked.

“They demanded N10 million from the victim’s relations which they later reduced to N5 million before the operatives, acting on intelligence information, swooped on them at the said hideout in the early hours of Saturday, rescuing the victim unhurt and without payment of any ransom as well as arresting the suspects,” the PPRO said.
