NIGER GOVT CONFIRMS ARREST OF BANDITS WHO ABDUCTED ABOUT 200 STUDENTS FROM NIGER SCHOOLS

Niger State Government has confirmed the arrest of some bandits who kidnaped about 200 Children from Salihu Tanko Islamic School, Tegina in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

Although the state government did not disclose the number of bandits that have been arrested.

The state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ketso, who made the disclosure to newsmen in Minna while giving updates on the abducted school children abduction, said some of the bandits are in the custody of the state.

Speaking shortly after presiding over a security meeting in Government house Minna, Ketso stated that the security operatives were already on trail of the bandits so as to rescue the children.

Ruling out payment of any ransom, he stated, “be assured that the abducted children will be rescued the same way the Kagara Science School Boys were rescued. We don’t pay ransom to abductors. We are trying to negotiate to see how we can bring them back safely.”

“The government does not know their parents nor where they came from. We are still taking the census of the children to know the exact numbers that were actually abducted. Nevertheless, the government will do everything possible to ensure their safe rescue.”

The deputy governor also admitted that the abductors of the school children took the government unaware, adding that due to the incessant attack on schools, the government , through proactive measure, has temporarily converted all boarding schools to day schools.

In a related development, more communities have suffered attacks from armed bandits in the last 24 hours, killing four people and several others injured in Kanpanin Bobi in Mariga local government area of the state.
