No fewer than nine persons have been killed and 15 others abducted by some unknown gunmen in Badna,Malifa, Tunga and other surrounding villages in Kurebe ,Shiroro local government area of Niger state.
It was learnt that those killed were members of vigilante who engaged the bandits in a gun duel while trying to escape with those they abducted from the village.
LEADERSHIP findings revealed that the bandits who engaged in mostly cattle rustling might be offshoot of those dislodged from Birini gwari forest in Kaduna state who have decided to sneak through Alawa forest to the affected villages.
It was learnt that severally, the combined team of police and other security agencies posted to the area had always mitigated the effect of the attack of the bandits on the villages making them to shift attention from Alawa to the neighboring villages around Kurebe.
The Niger State Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Dan Inna Abubakar who confirmed the attack on the villages said the police was on top of the situation to bring it under control.
Meanwhile, the senator representing Niger east, Senator David Umaru said yesterday that , “it is with heavy heart and a very sad mood that I issue this statement today on a most callous and brutal armed attack on my good people of Badna, Malfa, Tunga villages and surrounding communities in Kurebe and Kwaki wards of Shiroro area within Niger East senatorial district.”
According to him, ” I am particularly saddened and shocked at the cruel massacre of 9 people of my constituent, the kidnap of 15 innocent people mostly women and girls in an attack in which several others were raped, injured and hospitalized with 11 in critical condition.”
” It’s painful to note that this incident which occurred not more than 36 hours ago is just one amongst several other brazen attacks that have been carried out in the area in recent times. For instance, about four days ago, several attacks were carried out and in one of which a woman and her daughter were kidnapped and a Royal Prince abducted at Kwararamai”, he said.
Umaru disclosed that 3 persons were killed while 3 were abducted in Malfa. Villages like Kwararamai, Jankuta and Marraraban Bataro where 17 persons were abducted in one night have all suffered the same fate.
While commiserating with the families of deceased, he urged security agencies not to deter in their efforts to ensure that the bandits were made to face the full wrath of the law.
